How To Overcome Negative Beliefs

Your teacher assigned you as the class president. She believes in your capabilities because she knows your true potential as her student. In your case, you doubted yourself that you might not be the one on that position even though your teacher & your classmates believe that you deserve it.
In workplace, your boss asks you to present a proposal on the upcoming company meeting. Like the teacher I’ve mentioned above, your boss also knows your capability that’s why he chooses you over all your officemates.  Again, you think you might not able to pull the trick.

These kinds of thinking are called negative beliefs. And this kind of belief may interfere and get in the way in achieving your goals and in becoming successful. The fact in holding negative beliefs in yourself is like limiting your own capabilities.

Here are some examples of negative beliefs I’m talking about:
  • I am no good
  • I can’t do it
  • I can’t solve this
  • I can’t get it right
  • I can’t make it work
  • I can’t fix it
  • I don’t know what to do
  • I can’t be successful
  • I am unattractive
  • I am stupid, shattered brain, awkward etc.
  • I am inferior to others
  • I am worthless and useless
  • I am a loser
  • She doesn't like me
  • He won’t help me
  • Nobody cares for me
  • I can’t change
Negative beliefs are hindrances in achieving your goals and becoming successful. They are also called limiting beliefs” as they limit your potential and capabilities.

One way to get rid of these beliefs is to counter it with positive ones that ask for further evidence and on why is it like that. For example, the “I can’t be successful” thought can be countered if you ask yourself “How sure you are that you won’t be successful?”. If you answer that question again with negative belief like “Because I’m not capable of”, questioned it again with a positive one like “what capabilities you should have in order to become successful?”…. and so on…
Keep asking positive questions to counter those limiting beliefs of yours until you put the negative thought into submission.

Continue practicing this, and make it a habit and you’ll see a great improvement in just a month. If you like to try another techniques or methods on how to overcome negative & limiting beliefs, watch “The Missing Secret Clearing Limiting Beliefs” by Dr. Joe Vitale.

Let me share some story of mine:
I do have a doubt on myself every time I was doing something. Limiting beliefs like “can I do it?” is the most common negative belief I always ask myself. There is this one time that I participated in our schools poster-making contest because my teacher asks me to. This thought keep lingering in my mind for days before the competition causing sleepless nights. One day before the competition, my teacher told me “You can do it. I know you can” with a smile on her face. Thanks to her inspiring words, I was able to redirect my thoughts only on thinking “I can do it”. In the end, after giving my best and believing in myself I managed to get the 2nd place(which I didn't expect). =)

No matter what kind of negative thoughts and beliefs appear in your mind, you can always eliminate it with your active positive beliefs in your conscious mind.
"A man can be as great as he wants to be. If you believe in yourself and have the courage, the determination, the dedication, the competitive drive and if you are willing to sacrifice the little things in life and pay the price for the things that are worthwhile, it can be done."       - Vince Lombardi

You are right, it could be your friend, family member, teacher, neighbor, etc. But that doesn't mean you believe in them. rely on your true capabilities. You know yourself better than others. ;)
